National Museum
The National Museum is a must-visit for anyone who comes to Prague. Why? It’s the largest museum complex in the Czech Republic. Here you’ll find impressive collections from botany, entomology, zoology, anthropology, archaeology, mycology, palaeontology, and mineralogy. The main building of the National Museum is located in the upper part of Wenceslas Square. Náprstkovo Museum
The Náprstkovo Museum will captivate all lovers of Asian, African, and American cultures. On the ground floor of the museum, you can relax in a stylish South American café or in an inner courtyard where outdoor exhibitions are regularly installed.
DOX Centre for Contemporary Art
DOX is a breath of fresh air among museums. Here you will find exhibitions of modern art and also the famous airship where lectures are held. The Centre for Contemporary Art also includes a café with its own terrace as well as a shop offering literature, jewellery, glass, and ceramics. DOX is located in the industrial area of Holešovice and your visit can be combined with a walk in Stromovka Park.
Trade Fair Palace (Veletržní palác)
If modern art is your cup of tea, you will be thrilled at the Trade Fair Palace. This gem of functionalist architecture houses four extensive floors filled with collections of European and Czech art from the 19th to the 21st centuries. National Technical Museum
Lovers of technology and industry will enjoy the extensive collections that document the development of many technical fields, natural and exact sciences, and industry in what is now the Czech Republic. Permanent exhibitions include architecture, astronomy, transport, timekeeping, and printing. In the Merkur Playroom, both children and adults can have fun. Besides building with Merkur, you can also play a computer game themed around mining. The National Technical Museum is located in Prague 7 on Kostelní Street.
Absintherie Museum
The Absintherie Museum is not just a bar but can also be considered a museum dedicated to absinthe. This museum boasts the largest collection of absinthe and related items in Central Europe. The exhibition includes about 250 different bottles of this alcohol from around the world. Some specimens are available for sale, but most bottles are no longer commonly available on the market and can only be viewed. The exhibition also features various fountains, special glass, sieves, and other tools used in serving absinthe.
Franz Kafka Museum
The Franz Kafka Museum is dedicated to the life and work of the famous Czech writer Franz Kafka. It is located in the historic centre of the city, close to Charles Bridge. Beer Museum Prague
Located in the centre of Prague, the Beer Museum offers an intriguing exposition on the history and tradition of Czech brewing. As part of the ticket, it is also possible to taste several varieties of Czech beers in interesting cellars dating back to the 13th century, either in a pub from the 19th century or in a traditional establishment from the socialist era.
Toy Museum Prague
The Prague Toy Museum is the world’s second-largest exposition of its kind and the largest private collection. In the museum, you will find several halls dedicated to toys documenting the evolution from the times of ancient Greece to today’s favourite toys. Among the most interesting and captivating exhibits are the smallest movable doll, the oldest mechanical tin toys, the oldest Barbie, the largest Barbie, and the oldest doll dating back 2000 years.
Museum of Prague Legends and Ghosts
The Museum of Prague Legends and Ghosts is divided into two parts: an underground ghost alley and an interactive part on the ground floor mainly dedicated to legends. This interactive exposition appeals to both children and adults. The ghost alley is built to real-life size and is constructed at the level of medieval Prague streets.
Czech Museum of Music
The Czech Museum of Music preserves musical materials in the collections of the National Museum. It holds up to 700,000 documents from music history, including a broad sheet music archive, a phonothek, a collection of musical instruments, and also legacies or collections from Bedřich Smetana and Antonín Dvořák.
Museum of Torture: Museum of Penal Law and Torture Instruments
Located in reconstructed cellar spaces on Celetná Street in Prague, the Museum of Penal Law and Torture Instruments boasts a permanent exhibition and is proud of around 100 exhibits and several dozen period engravings. Wax figures placed in an authentic setting and enhanced with sound effects contribute to the unique impression of the entire exhibition. There are also two special audio-visual recordings – the burning of a witch and an execution by sword.
Museum of Miniatures
The Museum of Miniatures at Strahov in Prague is one of the most extensive in Europe and offers a fascinating insight into the world of extremely small artistic and technical marvels. Currently, the museum holds one of the largest collections of microminiatures in the world, including 29 exhibits. The exhibition presents works by three talented authors: Nikolai Aldunin, Edward Ter Ghazarian, and Anatoli Koněnko.
Alchymist Coffee Museum
The Alchymist Coffee Museum leads visitors into the world of coffee history, from cultivation and processing to the production of coffee beverages. Here you will find historical roasters, grinders, coffee measures, and equipment for preparing coffee. Unique exhibits include a collection of more than 250 coffee and coffee additive cans from the period 1850-1950.
