Summer in Prague: How to Make the Most of It
Are you wondering where to spend your summer vacation? Head to Prague! Our capital offers historical monuments, romantic corners and gardens, as well as a rich cultural and nightlife. We’ll advise you on how to make the most of your summer in Prague.
Discover the Most Popular Tourist Attractions
Whether you enjoy the sight of historical monuments or modern architectural gems, you will surely find something to your taste in Prague.
For visiting the city center, we recommend the Royal Route, which is the path the future king took to his coronation. It is about 4 km long and passes the most important points of historic Prague – starting at the Municipal House, through the Old Town Square, past the Clementinum, and across the Charles Bridge. It follows Malostranské náměstí and leads up to Prague Castle with St. Vitus Cathedral. You can also walk in the other direction via Pohořelec and Loretánské náměstí to Prague Castle.
Other Places Worth Visiting
- Vyšehrad
- Jewish Quarter
- Petřín and the Mirror Maze
For fans of modern architecture, we recommend the Dancing House, the cubist houses below Vyšehrad, or the House of the Black Madonna.
Attend Cultural Events
During the summer season, Prague offers a variety of cultural events. If you enjoy theater, don’t miss the Summer Shakespeare Festival, where the most famous Czech actors perform. The performances are often sold out, so we recommend buying tickets well in advance. Vyšehrad also hosts open-air theater in the summer, known as the Vyšehrad Summer Stage, offering programs for both adults and children.
Fans of contemporary circus and acrobatics will enjoy the Letní Letná festival. You can look forward not only to Czech stars but also international acts, all in an idyllic setting at Letná with themed refreshment stalls and relaxation tents.
Musically, Metronome Prague features performances by famous international artists every year.
Gastronomy enthusiasts will also be delighted this summer. Prague hosts numerous large and small culinary festivals. Some bring flavors from around the world, while others focus on specific cuisines such as Thai, Mexican, Mediterranean, etc.
Cool Off by the Water
Prague may be a metropolis, but that doesn’t mean it’s all concrete. On the contrary, the capital offers many places to cool off in the summer heat. And not just that – most facilities also offer sports activities, including water sports or attractions (water slides, saunas, etc.), and of course, swimming pools and playgrounds for children. You can choose from, for example, the Divoká Šárka swimming pool, the Podolí swimming stadium, the Radotín swimming biotope, or the Žluté lázně area.
Hide from the Sun in the Park
It’s not just in the swimming pools where you can protect yourself from the relentless sun. You can also cool off in Prague’s numerous parks. Whether you just want to relax, hang out with friends, or grab a bite to eat (most parks have pubs and stalls), we know the right places.
Our recommended parks:
- Petřínské sady
- Royal Game Reserve Stromovka
- Ladronka
- Košíře-Motol
- Divoká Šárka Nature Park
